Just spent an hour and a half working on another piece for my mom, only to have it crack as I was finishing up the bottom. Grrrr. Very frustrating! So now I have another piece of pretty fire wood. This stuff doesn’t just grow on trees you know!!! Wait…
I am particularly proud of this one, it’s inspiration came from an event called Pennsic. Two weeks of camping out with thousands of like minded medieval reenactment folks, (the SCA), means a lot of amazing company, food, frivolity, and drink. There are so many amazing brewers there, that that there is always something new to try. So I made a goblet that handles the normal wine glass sized drink, and has a shot glass cut into the base. All you have to do is remember to empty one before switching to the other!
My mom is an artist, an incredibly talented one. She is also one of my favorite people in the world, so forgive me if I go on and on about how remarkable she is. Her particular medium is paper. She does what is called quilling, also known as paper filigree. This art is rare and simply amazing, you can check out mom’s stuff at http://www.whimsiquills.com/servlet/StoreFront.
So mom asked me if I could make a little box with a recessed lid that she could put quilling on. This is the first of what will hopefully become many. I can’t wait to bring it to her to see what she does with it!
I took a friends suggestion, and have attempted to connect my website to Facebook. This will be the first post that should show up. Hopefully I don’t bore all of you to death.
